The privately owned piece is estimated to sell for 30-40 Million Dollars.

Link to Sotheby's

Below is another Lichtenstein piece that currently hangs in the MOMA in NYC.
I visited the museum while on vacation to New York in October, 2010.

Who knows...maybe the piece to be auctioned will end up hanging next to this one.

New Painting Completed Today: Gaudy Decanters

Gaudy Decanters is based on Blenko and other art glass decanters we have in our collection. The piece was mostly painted with a 1” wide brush. You can almost envision the random brush strokes as if the decanters have a crackle finish. All that's left to do is to gloss varnish the piece in a couple weeks.

Sharing Other Artist's Info.: Virginia Stonebarger (Tucson)

We've had this beautiful piece of framed art in the collection for 5-6 years now. It was found at a consignment shop here in Tucson. The artist also lives here in Tucson. I'm drawn to her style due to the strong use of color for the subject matter.

Fun Wine and Paint Party Held at a Winery in Florida

My cousin works at the Chautauqua Vineyards and Winery in the panhandle of Florida. The winery has these wine and paint parties. "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt was the subject of the last event. Check this out...how fun.

Sharing Other Artist's Info.: Sherry Darrah (Tucson Area)

I spotted Sherry's work at a gallery in Tubac (S. of Tucson) and again at a festival or two before approaching her to paint the dachshunds. In late 2010 I commissioned Sherry to paint a portrait of Tanner, Desi, and Stella for Chris as a Christmas gift that same year. We love how it turned out. The painting is proudly displayed over the fireplace in the family room. Sherry's southwest inspired pieces are also quite colorful and beautiful.

No. 2, The Barrio. Tile Series. This One is a Bit Larger and Very Colorful.

This colorful painting was inspired by the many rich colors of Tucson's Barrio District. The tough decisions started with where to begin when choosing only the handful of colors used. Colors like these contained in the painting can be found mingled together on exterior adobe walls, door and window trims, and other details of homes and businesses in the Barrio. Often the same colors can even be found painted on interior spaces giving them a lively southwest flare inside. In this particular painting, the green shades at the bottom were added to give the painting that touch of "cactus" color. Cactus of all kind is often the main focal point of the natural desert landscape in the Barrio (after the paint colors of choice that is).

Sharing Other Artist's Info.: Diana Madaras of Tucson

I've enjoyed Diana's work ever since discovering her galleries shortly after the move to Tucson. We have added several of her signed prints to our art collection. A few of which are pictured below. Diana has a style all her own, and I am drawn to her more colorful desert scenes. Be sure to check out more of her work on her website.

New Unveiling: Round and Round

Just completed today. Round and Round was something I thought would be fun to do, and it was. I lined up my paints in the order I wanted to lay them down, and pretty much stuck to that order with an exception or two when it seemed I needed another color in place. No need to try and count the number of colors used...there are 18 total (19 if you count the black painted sides). There will be a "Series" name for this piece (to come). I just haven't settled in on a name at the moment. Other paintings in the series will have a varied shape and narrower color scheme.

The Artists' Inspiration.

Stella is a wirehaired variety, and her coloring is red. She has one bright blue eye due to her having the dapple gene. Stella’s registered name is: Stellar Rose of Steilacoom. She was born in Feb. 2002 in Seattle, WA. Fitting that the piece was painted in the same month of her 10 year birthday.

Tanner is also a wirehaired variety, and his coloring is black and tan. His registered name is: Southern Tanner Boy. He was born in Oct. 2003 in Hessmer, LA.

Desi is a wirehaired variety as well. Her coloring is black and tan, and she received the dapple gene from her mother. Desi’s registered name is: Arizona’s Desert Sky. She was born in Aug. 2004 in Vail (Tucson), AZ.

Sharing Other Artist's Info.: The Florida Highwaymen

I've been a fan of The Florida Highwaymen art ever since discovering it back in the early 1990's. The history of this group of artists is long and at times very tragic. What once sold for nearly nothing to tourists along roadsides in Florida has now become sought after by collectors from all over the country and especially those with a Florida connection. I've read that it's estimated that 50,000 pieces may have been painted over the few decades the original group worked together. Seems like a huge number to me, but possible...I suppose. Prices for larger works or those pieces painted by a few of the more recognized artists in the group can fetch thousands of dollars. A handful of original artists are still painting today, and even their children, relatives and others are carrying on the style. My connection to this beautiful art is being originally from Florida, and having it remind me of the past. Many of the scenes they painted are found on back roads and out-of-the way locations. You won't get to see this beautiful and natural part of Florida from the beaches of Miami or from the Disney World theme park in Orlando. A few of the pieces in my collection were picked up in Florida while on vacation. Another one or two from eBay, and more recently the top picture and largest painting in this collection was found hanging in an antique mall here in Arizona.

What a beautiful person she was for all that she has done for others over the years, and continues to do through her charitable contribution.

Pictures

I'm still working to set up just the right spot to photograph the paintings for the blog. Look for the current pictures to eventually be replaced with better quality images. Not the fun part of all this, that would be actually painting.

Look for more pieces in the Circles Series in the near future.

My concept for the Circles Series is to produce other color schemes that can be placed side-by-side to create a larger scaled horizontal display. Possibly as a set of two or even three for that bold impact. Eventually, I envision having a selection to choose from, and options to fit any decor.

Latest Unveiling: Napa, Grapes to Wine. Circles Series

First in the Circles Series. Some who know me might say that the inspiration for this piece comes from my obvious like for the colors purple and green. That may be true, but actually the inspiration for the series came first with another color scheme in mind. Then, I thought to produce this one first in honor of a couple friends and a family member whose lives are influenced by winemaking.
